1x TAE (Tris-Acetate-EDTA) Buffer

40 mM Tris

• tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane or Tris base, FW=121.14

20 mM Acetic acid

• Glacial acetic acid (the typical stock solution) is 17.42 M.

1 mM EDTA

• ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid; FW= 292.24

• ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid dihydrate

• ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt, or disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid; FW= 372.24

This typically results in a solution close to pH 7.6.

This is often prepared as a 50x TAE stock solution and diluted to 1x as needed.
