Recipes of 1x TE (Tris-EDTA) Buffer

Used for storing and diluting DNA or RNA.
10 mM Tris
  • tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane
  • Tris base; FW=121.14
  • Tris-HCl acid; FW 157.61
1 mM EDTA
  • ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid; FW= 292.24
  • ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid dihydrate
  • ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt or disodium ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid; FW= 372.24
Bring to pH 8.0 (typical), 7.6, or 7.4 as directed.
Can be made either by weighing calculated mass of each powder and dissolving in ultrapure water, or by diluting typical laboratory stock solutions of 1 M Tris and 0.5 M EDTA.
This is often prepared as a 10x TE stock solution and diluted to 1x as needed.
